About this Podcast
HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm thrilled to be speaking with Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in Additive Manufacturing and the lead instructor for our new course, "Advanced Certificate in Additive Manufacturing for Furniture." Dr. Smith, can you tell us a bit about what drew you to this field? GUEST: Absolutely, I've always been fascinated by the potential of 3D printing, and when I saw how it could revolutionize the furniture industry, I knew I had to be a part of it. HOST: That's fantastic. Now, can you share some current industry trends that are relevant to this course? GUEST: Certainly. Sustainability is a big one. Additive manufacturing allows for efficient use of materials, reducing waste. Also, the customization possibilities are endless, which is a game-changer for the furniture industry. HOST: Yes, I can see how that would be exciting. But there must be challenges too. What would you say are the main hurdles in this field? GUEST: Yes, one major challenge is the cost of 3D printers and materials. However, as technology advances, these costs are slowly coming down. Another challenge is the time it takes to print larger pieces of furniture. HOST: I see. And looking to the future, what do you envision for the role of additive manufacturing in the furniture industry? GUEST: I believe additive manufacturing will become a standard production method in the furniture industry. It offers too many advantages to be ignored. We'll see more mass customization, sustainable production, and innovative designs. HOST: That's an exciting outlook. Thank you so much for sharing your insights with us today, Dr. Smith. It's been a pleasure talking to you. GUEST: Thank you for having me. It's been a pleasure.
